Indoor Ceremony Decor - 7 Impressive Ideas

Indoor ceremony spaces can be quite challenging to style. Unfortunately, they don't generally have the grandeur of a church or the natural beauty of an outdoor setting.  That doesn't mean, however, that with a few tweaks, they can't be turned into something utterly gorgeous.

No matter where you hold your ceremony, we know you want it to make a super stylish statement (come on, who doesn't want to get hitched in an insanely exquisite setting that knocks their guests' socks off?).  So, to help you out, we've put together seven of our favourite ways to decorate an indoor wedding ceremony space.

Even if you're planning an outdoor ceremony, you're going to need an indoor, bad weather back up plan (unless you're super relaxed and carefree, have a marquee at the ready, are an eternal optimist or are able to predict the weather).

And a little tip:  if you're having an outdoor ceremony, many of these decor ideas can be directly applied to an outdoor space and then brought inside should it rain, hail, snow or blow a gale.

1. Candles

Let's be honest, what's not to love about candles?  They're inexpensive, always elegant and create soft oh-so-flattering light (who doesn't want to look extra pretty on their wedding day?) .  Cluster candles in odd numbers (odd always looks better) for a very stylish and easy to achieve look.  You can tailor the look to your taste by using different kinds of votives and candle holders.

2. Fireplaces

Fireplaces are the perfect size and shape for a ceremony focal point or altar.  They also tend to have lovely mantles which can hold any manner of floral decor, candles or other pretty details.  If your venue has a lovely fireplace available, think about making the most of it!

3. Fabric

The great thing about fabric is it comes in all coloursand sizes and this means you can select the perfect fabric for your space and overall wedding style.  The other great thing about fabric is that, used well, it softens a hard space - and harshness is one of the most common challenges of styling an indoor space.   Hang it, drape it, twirl it, create romantic curtains from it, do all sorts of interesting things with it - fabric is very versatile and, depending on your bargain hunting skills and resourcefulness, can be pretty cost effective too.

4. Floral decor

There's a good reason why flowers are the go to decor option for weddings - they scream indulgence, beauty, femininity and elegance like nothing else can.

Flowers are beautiful in any space however, in an indoor ceremony location, they are particularly useful because they allow you to 'bring the outdoors in'.  One of the most powerful things you can do when styling a wedding is create contrast, and cold, clean lines and rustic or industrial materials contrast perfectly with delicate florals and lush foliage.

Think arches and garlands only suit an outdoor affair? Think again - they're just as perfect in a hall, loft, warehouse, barn or other indoor ceremony space.

6. Vintage doors

Vintage doors are a really handy height for a ceremony backdrop - they just happen to be a perfect smidge higher than most people.  In addition, they are cheap to buy (find them on Ebay, Gumtree and in second hand or reclaimed building material yards) and they come in a whole lot of different styles so you can choose the doors that best suit your desired look.

Glam them up with floral garlands, hang chandeliers above them, place clusters of candles at their base - there's hundreds of ways to make vintage doors a very stylish statement piece.
